There are two main misunderstandings regarding the Multi Level Marketing (MLM) or Networking Marketing Industry, which I would like to address in the hope to help you to separate the facts from the myths:

1. Is it true that those at the top are making the most or practically all of the money?
2. Is it true that only those who happened to get in FIRST are making most or practically all of the money?

Question 1: Factually, the answer is YES, and it’s YES concerning Microsoft, Home Depot, Kodak and any other Business too! In fact, try to name any company, where the people at the bottom make most or all of the money. If you research corporate executives and owner’s compensations of most companies, you’ll see that only a few people at the top make the majority of the money. This assumption is validated by Associated Press Surveys as well as by Merrill Lynch World Wealth Reports. There’s no doubt – only a few people make the majority of the money in every company, every industry and even every country. Period.

As a result, I would think that is just unfair and biased to look at the MLM or Network Marketing Industry and claim it’s flawed because the people at the top make the most of the money! As we saw, the same can be proven in every industry.

I’m not writing about this subject because I’m complaining that is unfair. My suggestion would be to NOT complain about this; instead BE one of the wealthy!

People who complain that those at the top are making most of the money are either justifying why they have quitted trying to be one of the wealthy or justifying why they have never tried. The more important thing to examine is that Network Marketing Compensation plans are designed to reward PRODUCTION according to the following law:

Do nothing, earn nothing;
Do a little, earn a little;
Do a lot, earn a lot.

How else could you possibly compensate workers?

Imagine that you and I started a company and we decided that whoever does the least production would make the most money. Would that work? NO, of course. That’s the welfare system, which was repeatedly proven NOT to work!

MLM pays based on performance standards: if you perform to a certain standard you earn whatever that level or standard pays; if you do nothing, you get nothing; if you do a little bit you will earn a little extra income; if you do a little bit more, you’ll get a part-time income. If you do an enormous amount, you can create wealth.

Now you may be asking, how many people will, realistic seen, achieve the highest standard? The answer is clear: however many perform to the standard!

A MLM Company, unlike traditional companies, puts NO restrictions on anyone. A MLM Company doesn’t say “we’ll allow only ten people to achieve the top level”; they don’t look at the college you’ve attended or If you attended one or not and then decide what you will be paid. They don’t look at your salary from your previous job and use that as the basis of what they’ll pay you as most employers do. A MLM Company doesn’t even look at what experience you have or don’t have.
Whoever meets the required performance standards enjoys the benefits of that standard. That is the most fair compensation structure that could possibly be, don’t you think too?

Question 2: Is it true that only those who happened to get in FIRST are making most or practically all of the money?

My answer: In what business does this not happen in? Well, there is just ONE that I know of and I’m going to share it with you in a moment. First, let’s analyze the following situation: If you work for a traditional company, didn’t the owners get in before you? Aren’t they earning money off what you do? Another question: In the stock market, if you buy a stock let’s say at $20 bucks and sell it at $30, aren’t you then making money off the people who bought the stock after you did? Another example: If you buy a house for $250K and sell it for $300K, aren’t you then making money off the person who bought it after you did?

However, as above briefly mentioned there is only one industry that I’m aware of where anyone can come in later and make more money than those who came in earlier. And that’s the Network Marketing Industry. To validate my point I’m going to disclosure to you the fact that, in my organization, meaning in my down-line, there are people who came in one year later than me who are making more money than I do! That’s right, sounds a little odd, he?

There’s still more to that. In fact, I’ve not been able to find one Network Marketing Company where the first distributor to join the company makes the most money! Doesn’t this fact fly in the face of those who say that only the people who get in at the beginning make more money? The truth of the matter is that people who earn more money than me, in my organization, SHOULD earn more. They’ve obviously been more productive in moving products to consumers than I am.

As a matter of true, unbiased facts, any person can join Network Marketing at any time and end up making more money than anyone else in that very company. This is provable in my business and provable in any MLM Company I’ve looked at.

I sincerely hope that this will help you to separate the facts from the myths.

I asked a sommelier a friend of mine what is the most important time of the year for a vineyard he said right after the harvest. When the harvest is over it IS over. The vine shows pumice or it does not. However, what is really import is to figure out how to make the vine better for the next year. The other important thing is how I put that vineyard to bed. That is the most important time of the year because it becomes the building block for the next year’s vintage.

In sales just like the vineyard after harvest the debrief right after the sales call or appointment is incredibly important. One has to ask himself why it went wrong. Or why did it go right? How do I change it? What are the facts? Where were my emotions during the sales? What do I tell myself after the defeat? Or what do I tell myself after the victory?

Two important points in fact!

We never seem to ask ourselves why things go right. Look, this is how I see this: if I understand why it went right I could habitualize what I did, that was right and I get into the habit of doing things right all the time.

We always beat ourselves up on the things that went wrong. In order to be an optimist it is imperative to practice it. An optimist is a person who tells himself a goof story after the defeat. It is a positive way of explaining a negative result.

Among the many lessons, I was able to learn in one of the various, really priceless Webinars given by members of our team was the following one:

Sales people who score high on the optimistic test outsold everybody else at midlife at 88%. I asked one of those people who was top-of-the-table, not only of a million-dollar-round-table but he is top of the insurance industry. Top 20 actually. I said you do not loose many sales I will bet but what happens when you do loose the sale? What do you say yourself? He says I know they have a bad day! Further, he said I keep calling until they have a good day!

THAT is what I call an optimist!
